Harvey Joiner (1852-1932)

Joiner is perhaps the most-collected and most well-known artist to emerge from the Louisville and Southern Indiana area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Clark County, Indiana, native lived in Jeffersonville and maintained a studio in Louisville. His landscape work was greatly influenced by Louisville artist Carl Christian Brenner.

Our Joiner, an early, important work by the artist, was painted in 1876, a year after Joiner returned to the Louisville area after spending time in Louisiana and Missouri.
