Walter Franklin Lansil (1846-1925)

American painter-etcher Walter Franklin Lansil was born in Bangor, Maine, and made his home in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1888 he traveled to Europe to study in Paris at the Académie Julian and visited Venice, Italy, which became a preoccupation of his art. He was a member of the Boston Art Club and the Society of Sons of the Revolution. Acclaimed as "the celebrated Venetian painter" in 1897 by the New York Times, Lansil also executed marine scenes, war scenes and portraits. Lansil was invited by Sylvester Rosa Koehler, print curator and promoter, for inclusion in The American Art Review.
