It’s been awhile since the opening of the Lee Clay Products exhibition at the Kentucky Folk Art Center in Morehead. To mark that fine show, here are a few smart-phone shots for those of you who missed the event. “The Things We Made: Decorative Works from Lee Clay Products” ran from 7 February to 25 May 2013.
Lee Clay was in Rowan County and operated from 1925 until 1970. The plant turned out fire brick, chimney toppers and sewer and drain pipe, as well as some wonderful decorative objects. We talked about the company in our book, “Clear as Mud: Early 20th Century Kentucky Art Pottery,” but couldn’t give the people who worked there the attention they deserve. Hats off to Richard Mook, who was the prime mover behind the exhibition.
