Rosamond O'Bannon Sample was a Louisville, Kentucky, native. She studied art at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and at Traphagen School of Design in New York City. She worked as a fashion illustrator for L. S. Ayres in Indianapolis. Her family was in publishing in Corydon, and her brother was the late Indiana Governor Frank O'Bannon.
Rosamond was known for her intricate white-on-white collages and this one won second prize at the Kentucky State Fair in 1967. She was the subject of a retrospective exhibition at Harrison County Arts in Corydon.
