Florence Arquin was a witness to the Diego Rivera/Frida Kahlo period in Mexican art history – and a friend to both artists. Based in Chicago, the photographer/artist traveled extensively, documenting the material culture of Mexico, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Haiti in the 1940s. She published a biography of Rivera, Diego Rivera: The Shaping of an Artist, 1899-1921, in 1971, and her photos of Kahlo are treasured by collectors. Mayan Huts is a block print from her Mexican period.
