This original stipple-and-line engraving by John Sartain after the painting by George Caleb Bingham was published by Goupil & Co. (New York, Paris and London) in 1854. Bingham is one of America's finest genre painters. This print is one of a series of political prints that includes Stump Speaking and Verdict of the People.
Bingham himself toured Kentucky, the home of Whig hero Henry Clay, to sell these prints.
